2011 is the 4th year of the Local Government Awards Northern Ireland. With Councils submitting entries across seven categories and a total of 45 entries received, the number and quality of submissions has enthused all concerned. The high quality of services and initiatives put forward - as well as individual Councillors and Officers commitment - was readily apparent. The Award Partners would like to thank all Councils who submitted an entry.

NILGA and SOLACE representatives provided evidence to the Regional Development Committee on un-adopted roads on Wednesday 18th January 2012. The delegation consisted of NILGA President, Cllr Evelyne Robinson, Vice-Presidents Cllr Dermot Curran and Ald Arnold Hatch and Mr David McCammick, Chief Executive of Antrim Borough Council.

The Northern Ireland Local Government Association has welcomed the decision by the Northern Ireland Executive to bring final clarity on the future of Local Government Reform.

Following successful lobbying, the Northern Ireland Local Government Association welcomes the published consultation on the fees payable to magistrates as detailed in the NI Magistrates Rules.
The Association will be submitting a response to this consultation in liaison with member Councils and given the impact on cost recovery, we would also encourage individual Councils to respond to this consultation.

Today’s industrial action by trade unions regarding reform of public sector pensions has had a variable impact on Northern Irelands twenty six district councils with some experiencing little or no impact, whilst others have seen services significantly curtailed.

The Northern Ireland Strategic Migration Partnership (NISMP) brings together representatives from local government departments, local councils, public services, the voluntary and community sector and the UK Border Agency to provide a regional voice on migration policy in Northern Ireland.

NILGA President, Councillor Evelyne Robinson warmly welcomes the statement from Minister Alex Attwood MLA, Department of the Environment, confirming that emergency funds will be made available to local councils; the funding provided will enable councils to support their citizens in the affected flooded areas with immediate help. This must be seen as an excellent and timely initiative by the Minister.
