Local Government Economic Summit
NILGA inconjunction with SOLACE and the LED Forum held an economic summit on the 29 April 2009 in the Hilton Hotel Templepatrick
The crisis facing financial institutions across the world threatens to affect every aspect of society. Unemployment, spiralling debts, increasing food, fuel and mortgage costs and dwindling pensions will impact on individuals, on families and on whole communities - but what are the real implications for local authorities and the people they serve? This one-day event explored the issues and consequences of the growing economic slowdown, the existing support initiatives and the steps that we can take to lead the way through it, for the benefit of local people and local communities.
To deal with this crisis, NILGA and SOLACE in conjunction with the LED Forum, held an summit. The summit will be used as a platform to develop support initiatives for councils and communities with the outputs of the day to be presented to the Executive through the OFMDFM Recession Taskforce.
