Civil Contingencies / Emergency Planning for Councillors

NILGA, in association with the Local Government Civil Contingencies Resilience Team, invites Elected Members and officers to a Workshop aimed at building a shared understanding amongst elected members (and other attendees) on the role of the councillor and skills required in the local response to emergency events.

The intention of this interactive workshop is to:

  • Improve understanding of what emergency planning is, why it’s important, how to do it and what support is available.
  • Increase confidence and competence of councillors in their community leadership role when emergency events occur.
  • Ensure councils are targeting resources in the most impactful way.
  • Safeguard councils reputation as a responsible decision maker.

Why Attend?

Councillors meaningful participation in civil contingencies/emergency planning is key to delivery of impactful local response, to protect the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of communities. This session will focus on increasing councillors understanding and competence around their community leadership role in preventing and mitigating the worse impacts of emergency events and how to provide support in response and recovery.

Hosted by NILGA with support from the LGTG (Local Government Training Group), these FREE events are open to all Elected Members, officers and interested stakeholders.
