The Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA), in partnership with the Society For Innovation Technology and Modernisation (Socitm) is hosting a special Empowering Women training event aimed at female councillors in Northern Ireland.
This is the first time the leadership training course has taken place here. It kicked off today (24/09) with an in-person session at Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.
The aim of the course is to give women more confidence, help them embrace the diversity they can bring to leadership teams, and support them in delivering these skills effectively.
NILGA President Cllr Alison Bennington said, “As President of NILGA this year I am hoping that strong and empowered women will follow in my footsteps, and we can raise the status of women through education and training. Empowering Women will allow us to make ourselves stand out and make life changing decisions through different societal problems.
“The course will give women the opportunity to reflect while challenging them to test themselves with real focused personal growth, by examining the things which may be holding them back.
“They can then use the course tools, techniques, and insights to go back into the workplace with enhanced self-confidence and determination.
“They will return with deliberate honing of their leadership approach and tactics to influence others and make a change.”
David Ogden, Engagement Director of Soctim said, “Empowering Women is a fantastic course. Everyone who takes part comes away feeling energised to focus on personal growth. It is always inspiring to hear how delegates use the tools, techniques and connections to identify and challenge the things which hold them back. Those completing the course go back into the workplace with enhanced self-confidence and determination.”
