NILGA PARTICIPATES IN THE AILG ANNUAL CONFERENCE, ADVOCATING COUNCILLOR SUPPORT FOR THE EVAWG CAMPAIGN

The Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) was delighted to attend the 2026 Annual Conference of the Association of Irish Local Government (AILG) in Tipperary today. This significant event brought together councillors and local government leaders, providing a unique platform for engagement, learning, and collaboration.

NILGA values the opportunity to further strengthen its partnership with AILG, working together to support councillors in their vital roles within communities. The conference’s focus on 'Urban and Rural Communities in Transition and Local Leadership on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG)’ aligns closely with NILGA’s ongoing commitment to championing the EVAWG campaign.

Cllr Billy Webb, President of NILGA, joined a distinguished panel of speakers and participated in a key session dedicated to exploring the role of local government in ending violence against women and girls.

"The conference presented significant opportunities for NILGA and AILG to enhance collaborative efforts, exchange expertise, and empower councillors to advocate for safer, more inclusive communities," said Cllr Billy Webb. "Through this continued action with AILG, linked to our Joint Pledge on Leadership in Local Government to End Violence Against Women and Girls, both associations commit to high standards, zero tolerance for intimidation, and integrating EVAWG into all areas of council work.”

NILGA looks forward to further engagement with AILG members, exchanging insights, and building on the strong foundation of partnership that exists between local government bodies across the island of Ireland.
